I have 2 apbts. What is the best diet to make them gain weight?

My male is three years old. And female is 5 months. It seems like they consume like pigs but dont obtain any weight. They are both utd on shots and are healthy. But they have no muscle to them. Trying to discover a way to make them acquire weight prior to summer and then run and stroll them non-cease. Maybe some weight pulling to create muscle.

what food are you feeding them and what country are you in??
the female should definately be on PUPPY food and the male could be on a food for a HIGH ENERGY BREED…
are they spayed or neutered.. unfixed dogs expend energy faster so require more food…

First of all, make sure you are feeding a high quality food. Food quality has a direct relation to their overall condition. Some foods to recommend: Wysung, Canidae, California Natural, Timberwolf, Abady, Innova, Eagle Pack holistic, and Royal canin. Please keep in mind that this is not a complete list, but a great place to start.

Secondly, with your male you need to work on exercising him. Exercise with a good quality food will get the weight on; but remember it takes time. Once he’s in good body weight and decent muscle, than do some weight pulling.

With your female, it’s a different story. At 5 months old, she is still very much a baby. She should be gangly and awkaward right now. You do not want to over-exercise a puppy her age as she is still developing and that can have detrimental long term consequences. Her muscle development should be done via playing and running in the backyard. I would not run her on pavement until she’s about a year old, as it puts pressure on her joints and more importantly, pounds on her growth plates. You also do not want to do any weight training until she’s around 18 months. In addition to this, being a little slimmer than you’d want (not skinny) is better than being overweight at her age. ]

As with anything, remember to start slow and gradually build. If you start them too fast, they risk injuring themselves. Moreover, while Pits are generally musclar dogs, some are more slende by nature. So if your dog is more slender than stocky, they may not bulk up the way you may invision.

give them alot of protein(meat)”pedigree canned food is great. buy them a harness, and attached weight to them (LITTLE BY LITTLE) add weight in small quantities, and dont make them pull weight everyday, only do it once every other day. if you make them pull weight everyday they will end up losin muscle. just follow these steps and that way they will get stronger and what u want, more bulkier

They need to be checked for internal parasites (worms) and be de-wormed if necessary. Also they should be on a high quality puppy food if they are skinny (can see their ribs) or a high-energy adult formula. The 5 month old should be on puppy food anyway. If you are feeding a low quality food (like Ol Roy or Iams) you should switch to a better quality food (like Purina ONE or Natural Balance).

for the puppy, i would suggest puppy chow for the puppy. your male, he should have some weitht on him by now, first just because they r utd on their shots does not mean that there is not an underlying problemmsuch as a thyroid problem, this can make them lose weight and gain weight. it could also be the type of food they r eating. i would consult with my vet if i were u.
